Tyra Watts is a Journalist and Digital Content Creator in the New York Metropolitan Area. With a background in journalism, digital media production, and social media management, Tyra has a creative talent in reporting the facts through compelling narratives and multimedia elements, whilst being personal and authentic to engage audiences. On her online platforms, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Substack, and more, she reports on pop culture, news, and entertainment in both visual and written formats, reaching diverse audiences and ensuring that they are informed and can gain a takeaway from her reports. Tyra doesn’t fit into one niche, as she also creates lifestyle, beauty, fashion, and almost any type of content that piques her interest.

Tyra earned her Bachelor of Arts in journalism and a minor in psychology at Kean University, where she served as a staff writer, news editor, and later editor-in-chief of Kean’s newspaper, The Tower. There, she developed and assigned story ideas to staff writers and editors regarding the latest news in the Kean community. In addition to editing, proofreading, and fact-checking articles, Tyra also reported on various topics within the Kean community, from hard news to celebrity profiles of Tabitha Brown, Flo Milli, Jasmine Guy, and Darryl M. Bell.

While running The Tower, Tyra was the Director of Public Relations for Kean University’s Pan-African Student Union (Kean PASU). She managed the union’s social media accounts to promote events and weekly meetings for current and prospective members. She also curated a content calendar schedule as the primary method to communicate the union’s operations and branding. Tyra played an essential role in new members joining Kean PASU after her leadership of the program event, “Black Representation in Media,” and general body meeting focusing on colorism and texturism in the Black community.

During her college years, Tyra became an established Digital Content Creator, known as theelifeoftyra on her social media platforms. What started as her making content in her spare time for fun during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 became a commitment and an outlet for Tyra to express her creativity. Tyra has worked on two ad campaigns with JustFactsNJ and Incorruptible.Us regarding the dangers of cannabis and tobacco usage.

Tyra became a Journalist and Digital Content Creator because there is always a story to be told and a voice to be heard. It is a belief that Tyra had told herself when she began attending college, something she holds onto to this day. Tyra wants her reporting heard by many through her content, whether it’s in a TikTok or YouTube video, a Substack, or an Instagram carousel post.
